NXT TakeOver: R Evolution takes place in just a few hours on the WWE Network. Months of NXT Television has built anticipation for this next special event, and it’s finally time to see who takes home the glory between Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville in a one-on-one battle for the gold. That said, I am running down the card, giving my thoughts and predictions of the entire card.
The Lucha Dragons vs The Vaudevillains for the NXT Tag Team Championship
I am not expecting much out of the match, outside of Kalisto being given the spotlight the talent he has. The Lucha Dragons are quite talented and work pretty well as a group, while I don’t see much long term viability in the Vaudevillains. I respect the Vaudevillains for trying hard with the gimmick but it does not click with me at all. Lucha Dragons retain.
Charlotte vs Sasha Banks for the NXT Women’s Championship
Despite a disappointing debut for Charlotte on Raw this week, I expect Charlotte to bring it tonight in a fight to keep her title. Sasha has also proven herself as someone to not be reckoned with though, so these two will be looking to take out some personal frustrations as well. Still, this does not appear to be the time or place for Charlotte to drop the title because that should signal her ascension to the main WWE roster that they nor her seem prepared for yet. Charlotte retains.
Finn Bálor & Hideo Itami vs The Ascension
While the match will certainly be bogged down because of the Ascension, I’m hoping that Itami and Bálor will be able to showcase their abilities. Both Bálor and Itami have what it takes to have great matches but The Ascension are not the opponents to be having it with. I think this may end up being the sleeper match if Konnor and Viktor decide to show up, but they haven’t yet so why start now? Also, it appears the Ascension are being called up to the main roster soon so hopefully this is their swansong in NXT. Finn Bálor & Hideo Itami win.
Sami Zayn vs Adrian Neville for the NXT Championship
These two have been battling for the championship for months, with the story centering on Neville playing the champion who will go through every means necessary in order to retain. Sami has been conflicted with himself, wanting to play by the rules but being taken advantage of. This past week’s episode of NXT showed the more aggressive of Sami but I don’t expect to play into the match too much. Maybe this is where the debut of Kevin Owens takes place. After all, Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville were the only two current NXT Superstars he mentioned. Still, it’s time to give Sami Zayn the big win he’s been fighting months for. Sami Zayn wins.
